The agreement was revised as part of the Johnson Department renegotiation in 2019. The amendments fit about 5% of the text. In the 2019 revisions, elements of the political statement were also adapted, replacing the word “appropriate” with “appropriate” with respect to labour standards. According to Sam Lowe, a trade fellow at the Centre for European Reform, the amendment excludes labour standards from dispute resolution mechanisms. In addition, the Equal Competition Mechanism has been postponed from the legally binding withdrawal agreement to the political declaration, and the line of the political statement that “the United Kingdom will consider taking into account alignment with trade union rules in the relevant areas” has been removed. 6.Am 29 March 2017, the then Prime Minister, Hon Theresa May, informed the European Council of the UK`s intention to withdraw from the European Union, in accordance with Article 50 of the Treaty on European Union (TEU). Article 50 stipulates that, within two years, the European Union should “negotiate and conclude within two years an agreement with [the withdrawn state] setting out the terms of its withdrawal taking into account the framework of its future relations with the Union.” 66.La general implementation of the EEA-EFTA and Swiss agreements linked to it after the date of the legal strength of the MDM , the withdrawal agreement must also be ratified by the European Parliament. After an unprecedented vote on 4 December 2018, MEPs ruled that the UK government was not respecting Parliament because it refused to give Parliament full legal advice on the consequences of its proposed withdrawal terms. The focus of the consultation was on the legal effect of the “backstop” agreement on Northern Ireland, the Republic of Ireland and the rest of the United Kingdom with regard to the CUSTOMS border between the EU and the United Kingdom and its consequences on the Good Friday agreement that ended the unrest in Northern Ireland, including whether the United Kingdom would be insured , in line with the proposals, to be able to leave the EU in a practical sense.
The declaration on the future relationship between the European Union and the United Kingdom, also known as the Political Declaration, is a non-binding declaration, negotiated and signed at the same time as the mandatory and broader withdrawal agreement on the uk`s withdrawal from the European Union (EU), known as Brexit, and the planned end of the transition period. 10.Am 28 February 2018, the European Commission published the first draft withdrawal agreement between the European Union and the United Kingdom, in which the December joint report was implemented in accordance with the agenda. On 19 August 2019, the new Prime Minister, Hon Boris Johnson, sent a letter to European Council President Donald Tusk as part of the withdrawal agreement of 14 March 2019. He confirmed that the changes envisaged by the Government were mainly related to the Protocol on Ireland and Northern Ireland. He also stressed that “the government`s ultimate objective for a long-term sustainable relationship with the EU” has changed and made it clear that it excludes membership of the EU internal market or customs union. As a result, it stated that it could not “continue to support” the “full alignment” commitment contained in the December 2017 Joint Report.
